Frequently Asked Questions
-
You may refer a patient via our HIPAA-compliant digital form or via fax. The DEA requires specific information to be included for telehealth referrals for controlled substances, including the patient’s diagnosis, evaluation, and any prior treatments. We will reach out to the patient 1-2 business days. We may also reach out to you for additional information to assist with treatment planning.
-
Noma emphasizes collaboration with the referring provider. This starts with the referral itself. Noma will also send the you a progress report at the end of treatment. We are also able to provide more regular updates during treatment upon request and with patient consent.
-
If you are a medical provider, you can continue to treat your patient throughout the Noma program. If you are a mental health practitioner, we encourage you to suspend treatment while your patient is engaged with Noma in order to establish a therapeutic alliance and avoid any potential difficulties associated with having two therapists at the same time. However, we understand that it may be important for your patient to stay engaged with you in certain instances. In these cases, it is acceptable for the patient to continue seeing you as well as their Noma therapist.

Noma is available for Colorado residents.

Yes. All Noma prescribers are licensed and trained psychiatrists, or nurse practitioners and physician assistants certified in behavioral health.
All of our psychotherapists are Master’s or PhD level clinicians who are licensed to practice in Colorado by their licensing board through the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).

Noma works to ensure that ketamine is only prescribed to appropriate patients and to mitigate the risk of diversion and dependence. We aim to help people who haven’t had much success with more traditional mental health treatments but who are not categorized as severely mentally ill.
Our clinical leaders, including our CEO, are experienced clinicians with a deep commitment to science-informed practice that is in the best interest of the patient. We have made a deliberate decision to focus heavily on what the research shows will have the best outcomes. In our case, this means a focus on unleashing the potential of psychotherapy through ketamine. While ketamine can be effective short-term, research shows that patients often relapse in as little as 2-3 weeks.¹ However, ketamine combined with psychotherapy maximizes and prolongs its benefits.²

We accept adults, 18 years or older, who have the ability to consent to treatment, have access to technology and a safe space in their home for dosing sessions, and can provide an emergency contact. Noma is for patients who are not responding to more traditional treatments such as psychotherapy and/or medication (typically two failed trials at adequate dose and duration).
Qualifying diagnoses include moderate to severe unipolar or bipolar depression, anxiety disorders, and PTSD. All Noma patients are evaluated for appropriateness by a licensed psychiatric practitioner (MD/DO/NP) before admission.
Psychiatric exclusions typically include active or history of psychosis or SUD, active mania or mixed episode, or personality disorders. However, these will be evaluated on a case by case basis. Medical disqualifiers include uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled hypo- or hyper-thyroidism, unstable cardiovascular disease, and other medical issues at Noma’s discretion.
We do not accept patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
